Mid to late 19th century micro mosaic locket, after Gioacchino Barberi.


The micro mosaic depicting a woman in traditional dress, with apron and headscarf, carrying a wicker basket of vegetables, with glazed panel reverse.

Gioacchino Barberi (1772-1857) was a highly renowned mosaicist, his oeuvre included figures in traditional costumes, often depicting war scenes or classical stories and peasant figures.


Marks:
Apparently unmarked.
Surround electronically tests as approximately 8-9ct gold.


Date:
Circa 1850-1870.


Length:
(including surmount) 3.5cm.


Condition:
Slight discolouration and small signs of wear.
Nibbles/nicks to the edge of the bevelled black glass.
