Antique gold and diamond baby tooth pendant

£480.00

Late 19th century gold baby tooth pendant.

The two teeth secured within a glazed heart ‘locket’, to an old-cut diamond-studded oak leaf overlay with branch and tiny acorn detail, suspended from a later surmount loop.

Were these the first two teeth of one child, from the first owner’s two children or possibly twins?

From as early as the middle ages, and across many cultures, superstitions surround baby teeth. It is thought that someone with the knowledge and ill-intent could assume total control over someone if they were able to obtain one of their teeth. All the more reason therefore for the first baby tooth to be kept safe, worn by someone for protection and to hold them close.

The acorn symbolises new beginnings, growth, and the promise of a bright future, with the addition of the oak tree details tying in strength, wisdom and knowledge.

Some cultures believe if you hang an acorn around your neck it will prevent premature ageing, wishing long life on the beholder.

Our primary concern is that you are pleased with your purchase. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like about a product before clicking purchase. Secondhand, vintage and antique pieces will naturally show scratches and small marks, these will often appear more noticeable in the enlarged images that we have made available for you. Our images are as realistic as they can be. Although any appreciable defects/damages will be mentioned please do inspect the images as they do form a part of the condition report.
Antique items may longer not be suitable for everyday wear or may benefit from thoughtful consideration when worn with care.
