American 14ct gold Egyptian revival scarab locket stickpin, with ruby eyes, by Carter, Gough & Co.
Designed as a lightly textured and engraved scarab, with ruby eyes. The front elytron is hinged, opening downwards to reveal the hidden locket compartment.
The scarab beetle represents Khepri, the early morning manifestation of the sun god Ra. Scarabs brought creation and renewal of life, good luck, manifestation and growth.

Stamped 14K.
Maker’s mark for Carter, Gough & Co. slightly worn.

Length of stickpin head 1.6cms.
Length of pin 5.7cms.
Condition:
Slight surface marks, minor discolouration.
Interior glass is deficient.
