A beautiful Victorian domed ‘puffy’ heart brooch of banded light through deep brown stone with rope-twist gold surround.
The origins of the heart motif are shrouded in mystery, with many theories suggested. Today however the heart is widely accepted as the definitive symbol of love.
Queen Victoria was particularly fond of heart-shaped jewels. The romantic movement, with its focus on emotion and sentimentality was reflected in the jewellery of the time, hearts being one of the favourite motifs. The Queen and Prince Albert were very much in love and the Prince often commissioned jewellery for his bride with sentiment of the region they visited. They both loved their time spent in Scotland and created jewellery out of ‘pebbles’ found in the places they visited. As the country was made more accessible by train, Scotland became a tourist destination made popular by the Queen. This led to many pieces of jewellery being made for the new tourist trade. Gold Scottish pebble jewellery is rare as most pieces were made in silver.

By clicking to ‘Purchase’ you agree to having read the Important Information for Purchasers.
Our primary concern is that you are pleased with your purchase. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like about a product before clicking purchase. We appreciate patina and the ‘age’ that older pieces acquire, because of this we do not polish pieces to strip away the age (though your local jeweller may be willing to do this for you for a small fee). Secondhand, vintage and antique pieces will naturally show scratches and small marks, these will often appear more noticeable in the enlarged images that we have made available for you. Our images are as realistic as they can be. Although any appreciable defects/damages will be mentioned please do inspect the images as they do form a part of the condition report.
Antique items may longer not be suitable for everyday wear or may benefit from thoughtful consideration when worn with care.
