A late Victorian gold split pearl crescent moon brooch.

Often used as a talisman for personal growth, protection and guidance, the crescent moon also symbolises transformation, femininity and natural cycles, the femininity further enhanced by the use of pearls. The flowers on the edge of this moon possibly alluding to the piece used as a ‘honeymoon’ piece, or simply as blossoming love. ‍

Marks:
Apparently unmarked with regard metal or maker.
Electronically tests as approximately 18ct gold. ‍

Date:
Circa 1890-1900. ‍

Length:
2.8cms.‍ ‍

Condition:
Wear and discolouration to the split pearls, pearls mostly appear varied grey hues.
Reverse of the centre contains a rectangular tube, presumably to connect to another detachable component, now deficient.
