Victorian green zircon and diamond acorn pendant/charm
Victorian silver and gold green zircon cabochon acorn pendant/charm, with rose-cut diamond cap and plain suspension loop.
It is unusual to see zircon that has been cabochon-cut rather than faceted but it works very well in this pendant, giving wonderful forest green hues and contains a large number of discoid or halo-type inclusions, rather unusual and we find rather delightful. The pendant mostly comprises gold, with the diamonds set in silver, a distinctiveness of Victorian jewels.
Zircon is the birthstone for September within the Hindu list of gemstones and is considered one of the gems of Summer. Sanskrit texts also ascribe zircon to the dragon, a malevolent influence who caused periodic eclipses, the zircon was believed to avert misfortune.
Some cultures believe if you hang an acorn around your neck it will prevent premature ageing. The acorn of course symbolises youth, potential, growth and prosperity. Nordic mythology often associates the oak and acorns with the gods of thunder, lightning and fertility, the oak tree a portal to other worlds, where spirits dwell. The acorn embodying life and rebirth.
Marks:
Apparently unmarked for maker or metal. Jeweller-type scratch marks to reverse.
Date:
Victorian.
Length:
Length (including surmount) 2.4cms. Length of acorn 1.6cms.

Generally good, small marks in keeping with wear. One diamond is flat-cut rather than cut to a point, appears much darker in the photograph than it does in real life.
By clicking to ‘Purchase’ you agree to having read the Important Information for Purchasers.
Our primary concern is that you are pleased with your purchase. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like about a product before clicking purchase. We appreciate patina and the ‘age’ that older pieces acquire, because of this we do not polish pieces to strip away the age (though your local jeweller may be willing to do this for you for a small fee). Secondhand, vintage and antique pieces will naturally show scratches and small marks, these will often appear more noticeable in the enlarged images that we have made available for you. Our images are as realistic as they can be. Although any appreciable defects/damages will be mentioned please do inspect the images as they do form a part of the condition report.
Antique items may longer not be suitable for everyday wear or may benefit from thoughtful consideration when worn with care.
